A Home for Punta Gorda's Homeless and Hungry

The Bread of Life Mission serves individuals and families facing homelessness, hunger, and housing instability throughout Punta Gorda and Charlotte County, Florida. Our doors are open to anyone in need of a hot meal, a safe bed, or a place to begin rebuilding, regardless of how long someone has been without stable housing or where they're traveling from.

We work daily with people navigating displacement, addiction recovery, family crisis, and the search for long-term stability. Whether someone needs a single meal or a place to stay for years, our mission meets them where they are, without judgment and without turning anyone away when space allows.

Our Mission

A safe place to lay one’s head, and a reason to hope again.

The Bread of Life Mission exists to see that every individual we serve has a decent place to sleep, a secure and supportive environment, and never goes hungry. Each day begins with morning Bible study, followed by hot meals served throughout the day, on-site security, and a community that treats every guest with dignity.

We are more than a shelter. We are a family, working to help those in our care move from immediate relief toward long-term independence and stability.

Support

Open 24 hours, 7 days a week

Unlike facilities that require guests to leave each morning or limit a stay to thirty days, we welcome those we serve to remain as long as they need — some for over twenty years. Meals, shelter, and fellowship are available around the clock.

How to Get Help at Bread of Life Mission

Getting help starts with a simple conversation. Anyone in need can call, visit our Punta Gorda location, or reach out through email to begin the intake process, which includes a welcoming assessment and orientation to the resources available on-site.

From there, our team connects each individual with the right combination of shelter, meals, counseling, or workshops based on their specific situation, and residents are free to stay as long as they need, with no fixed deadline pushing them back out onto the street.

Four Pillars of Our Mission

The need is great, and it is close to home.

For 66 years, this mission has stood as a place where no one is turned away simply because they have nowhere else to go. That work has never stopped, and the need for it has never gone away. Every gift you give re-enters the mission as a meal served, a night of shelter given, or a step taken toward independence.

Shelter Services

Long-term stay and temporary lodging in a secure, welcoming environment.

Generosity

Hygiene items, cleaning supplies, essentials, and financial contributions.

Safety & Environment

On-site security and stable living conditions for every guest.

Our History

Three generations of one family, feeding and sheltering the displaced.

Shelter, Meals, and Ministry Under One Roof

Our services combine emergency and long-term shelter, daily hot meals, Bible study, and pastoral counseling into a single, consistent support system open 24 hours a day. Residents aren't confined to strict schedules or short stay limits; they have access to food, rest, and community throughout the day, every day of the year.

Beyond shelter and meals, we connect residents to housing placement assistance, job readiness workshops, and guidance navigating government aid such as SSI, disability benefits, and food stamps. Every service is designed to work together, moving individuals from crisis toward independence at their own pace.

Three Generations of Feeding Punta Gorda

The Bread of Life Mission began with one woman's decision to feed the displaced members of her community, a calling later carried forward by her daughter and now by her granddaughters. Since 1960, this family legacy has kept the mission's doors open through changing times, growing need, and generations of Punta Gorda residents.

What started as a single act of compassion has grown into a full-time ministry offering shelter, meals, and spiritual support to the homeless and hungry. We continue this work in memory of our founder, Judy Jones, carrying forward the same values of faith and hands-on service that started it all.
